Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 On that Day faces shall be humbled, 2 Travailing, worn. 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 In a lofty garden, 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 In which are high thrones. 13 And cups put in place 14 And arranged carpets. 15 and carpets outspread. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And the mountains, how they were fixed; 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 As for those who turn their back and disbelieve, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 Verily unto Us is their return. 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
