۞ Give them the parable of two men. To one we gave two gardens of vines and surrounded them with palm trees and in between the two we placed a sown field. 32 Each of the two gardens brought forth its produce and stinted not aught thereof; and We caused to gush forth in the midst of the twain a river. 33 Both gardens would yield fruits to their fullest capacity. Whatever was produced belonged to him. To his friend he exclaimed, "I have more wealth and greater man-power than you." 34 And he entered his garden while he was unjust to himself. He said: I do not think that this will ever perish 35 And I do not think the Hour will occur. And even if I should be brought back to my Lord, I will surely find better than this as a return." 36 His friend said to him, "How can you disbelieve in the One who turned clay into sperm out of which He created you? 37 But as for me, He, Allah, is my Lord, and I do not associate anyone with my Lord. 38 When you entered your garden, why did you not say, "That which God wills [will surely come to pass], there is no power save with God?" Although you see I have less wealth and offspring than you, 39 my Lord may well give me a garden better than yours and send down thunderbolts from heaven upon your vineyard, turning it into a barren waste; 40 "Or the water of the garden will run off underground so that thou wilt never be able to find it." 41 (Sure enough the rich person's) fruits were all destroyed and he began to wring his hands in grief for all that he had invested in his garden. He found his garden tumbled to its trellises and said, "Would that I had not considered anything equal to my Lord". 42 And he had no group of men to help him against Allah, nor could he defend or save himself. 43 There, the (only) protection comes from Allah, the True One. He is the Best to reward, and the Best to give success. 44
