The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can avert, 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! for it would be the Fire of Hell!- 15 Eager to roast; 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 and amass [wealth] and thereupon withhold [it from their fellow-men]. 18 ۞ Indeed man is created very impatient, greedy. 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who fear the torment of their Lord, 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who of their trusts and their covenant are keepers. 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
