The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Recite thou in the name of thy Lord Who hath created 1 Created man from a clinging substance. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 By no means: Verily man exorbitateth. 6 As he considers himself independent! 7 truly, all will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 or is concerned with God-consciousness? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Did he not realise that Allah is watching? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 Let him call on his associates for help 17 We too shall summon the guards of Hell. 18 Nay, pay thou no heed to him, but prostrate thyself [before God] and draw close [unto Him]! ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
