Said the Council of the people of Pharaoh, 'Surely this man is a cunning sorcerer 109 who seeks to drive you from your land!" Pharaoh said, "What then do you advise?" 110 They said, “Stop him and his brother, and send announcers to the cities to gather people.” 111 to bring thee every cunning sorcerer.' 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 He said, "Yes, and, [moreover], you will be among those made near [to me]." 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said: Cast. So when they cast, they deceived the people's eyes and frightened them, and they produced a mighty enchantment. 116 Then We inspired Moses, saying, "Throw down your staff." And it immediately swallowed up their false devices. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 The magicians who were defeated on the spot and were proved to be worthless, 119 The sorcerers fell to the ground in homage, 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 But Pharaoh said: "You have come to accept belief in Him without my permission! This surely is a plot you have hatched to expel the people from the land. You will soon come to know. 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 Thou takest vengeance upon us only because we have believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour out upon us patience, and gather us unto Thee surrendering.' 126
