He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And is also fearful (of God), 9 You neglect. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 Exalted, Purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And caused to grow within it grain 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 laughing and joyful, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
