Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha Mim! 1 By the luminious Book. 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 (People will then say): “Our Lord, remove this scourge from us; we shall believe.” 12 How should they have the Reminder, seeing a clear Messenger already came to them, 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Were We to ease the torment for a while, you would still revert to denial of the truth. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ We tried the people of Pharaoh before them: a noble messenger was sent to them, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And wealth (and conveniences of life), wherein they had taken such delight! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
