The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 Verily We! We created man from a sperm of mixtures, that We might prove him, wherefore We made him hearing, seeing. 2 We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). 3 Indeed, for the unbelievers We have prepared chains, fetters and a Blazing (Fire). 4 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur, 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly, 6 Those who fulfil their vows and fear the Day whose evil shall be diffused far and wide, 7 And feed the needy for the love of Him, and the orphans and the captives, 8 [saying, in their hearts,] "We feed you for the sake of God alone: we desire no recompense from you, nor thanks: 9 behold, we stand in awe of our Sustainer's judgment on a distressful, fateful Day!" 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 And because they were patient and constant, He will reward them with a Garden and (garments of) silk. 12 Reclining therein upon couches, they shall behold therein neither sun nor hurting cold. 13 And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 goblets bright as crystal but made of silver, filled to exact measure. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 [From] a fountain within Paradise named Salsabeel. 18 ۞ And there shall go round unto them youths ever-young. When thou seest them thou wouldst deem them pearls unstrung. 19 And when thou lookest them thou shalt behold delight and a dominion magnificent. 20 Upon them there will be garments of green silk, rich brocade, and they will be adorned with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will give them a pure beverage to drink. 21 Behold, this is your recompense and your endeavour has been appreciated. 22
