Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
