Verily We created man of potter's clay of black mud altered, 26 and the jinn We had created before from flaming fire. 27 When your Lord said to the angels, "I will create the human being out of pure mud-moulded clay. 28 "So, when I have fashioned him completely and breathed into him (Adam) the soul which I created for him, then fall (you) down prostrating yourselves unto him." 29 The angels bowed in homage in a body 30 except Iblis who refused to join with the others in prostration. 31 He said: 'iblis, what is the matter with you, that you do you not prostrate yourself' 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 [Allah] said, "Then get out of it, for indeed, you are expelled. 34 And indeed, upon you is the curse until the Day of Recompense." 35 Said [Iblis]: "Then, O my Sustainer, grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead!" 36 He said, "You are granted respite 37 till that Appointed Day." 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 "Except Thy servants among them, sincere and purified (by Thy Grace)." 40 Said He, 'This is for Me a straight path: 41 over My servants thou shalt have no authority, except those that follow thee, 42 And indeed hell is the promise for all of them. 43 It has seven gates; for every gate there shall be a separate party of them. 44
