Verily this is a Revelation from the Lord of the Worlds: 192 Which the trusted spirit descended with 193 into your heart, so that you may be a warner, 194 In plain Arabic speech. 195 And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old. 196 Was it not a sign for them, that it is known to the learned of the Children of Israel? 197 And if We had revealed it (this Quran) unto any of the non-Arabs, 198 So that he should have recited it to them, they would not have believed therein. 199 Thus have We caused this [message] to pass [unheeded] through the hearts of those who are lost in sin: 200 they will not believe in it till they behold the grievous suffering 201 It will come upon them unawares, and they will not comprehend it. 202 Then they will say: "Can we be respited?" 203 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 204 Tell Me, if We do let them enjoy for years, 205 then there comes on them that they were promised, 206 So of what benefit will be the comforts that they were using? 207 Never a city We destroyed, but it had warners 208 To warn. For We are never unjust. 209 The devils did not bring it down: 210 It behoveth them not, nor they can. 211 Lo! verily they are banished from the hearing. 212 So call not on any other god with Allah, or thou wilt be among those under the Penalty. 213 Warn your nearest kinsmen, 214 and lower your wing to the believers who follow you. 215 but if they disobey thee, say: "I am free of responsibility for aught that you may do!" 216 Put your trust in the Mighty One, the Merciful, 217 who sees thee when thou standest [alone,] 218 and [sees] thy behaviour among those who prostrate themselves [before Him]: 219 Surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing. 220 Shall I inform you upon whom do the devils descend? 221 They come down to every mendacious sinner, 222 They listen eagerly, but most of them are liars. 223 As for the poets - it is the seduced who follow them. 224 Have you not seen them wandering and bewildered in every valley 225 And that they say that which they do not? 226 Except those who believe, and do good works and remember Allah in abundance and became victorious after they had been wronged. The wrongdoers will surely know which turn they will be returning to (Hell). 227
