In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 and endure with patience whatever people may say [against thee,] and avoid them with a comely avoidance. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled. 18 Indeed, this is a reminder, so whoever wills may take to his Lord a way. 19
