The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And have appointed your sleep for repose, 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water. 14 In order to produce grain and plants with it. 15 And dense gardens. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Indeed hell is lying in ambush. 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 Save a boiling fluid and a fluid, dark, murky, intensely cold, 25 An exact recompense (according to their evil crimes). 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
