Nay, and by the moon, 32 By the receding night 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 a warning to humankind, 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism); 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 About the criminals, 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 They shall say: We were not of those who prayed; 43 nor did we feed the destitute. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 until the inevitable event overtook us.” 47 And so, of no benefit to them could be the intercession of any that would intercede for them. 48 WHAT, THEN, is amiss with them that they turn away from all admonition 49 as if they were startled asses 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Then whoever wills will remember it. 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
