Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
HA MIM. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 By command, from Our Presence. For We (ever) send (revelations), 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that lies between them, if you really do believe. 7 There is only One Lord. It is He who gives life and causes things to die. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 'Our Lord, remove this punishment from us, we are believers' 12 [But] how shall this remembrance avail them [at the Last Hour,] seeing that an apostle had previously come unto them, clearly expounding the truth, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 'Behold, We are removing the chastisement a little; behold, you revert!' 15 on the Day when We shall seize [all sinners] with a most mighty onslaught, We shall, verily, inflict Our retribution [on you as well]! 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 And leave the sea intervening; surely they are a host that shall be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
