The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
CONSIDER the night as it veils [the earth] in darkness, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And by Who created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 As for him who gave out his wealth (for Allah's sake) and abstained (from disobeying Him), 5 And believed the best matter to be true 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 and he belied the finest 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 his wealth shall not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 and to Us belongs the Hereafter as well as the present world -- 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 He who denieth and turneth away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 the Godfearing who spends his wealth to purify himself; 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
