The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Of what do they question one another? 1 About the great news - 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Nay! they shall soon come to know 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and We made the night a mantle, 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown – you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 They will abide therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
