a good many of olden times, 39 and also a large throng from those of later times. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! those of old and those of later time 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Do you make it grow or is it We who make it grow? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you considered the fire which you strike? 71 Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
