Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 The night as it advances, 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The likes of whom had never been created in the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 Enter My Paradise." 30
