The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
ALL PRAISE BE to God who has revealed to His votary the Book which is free of all obliquity, 1 Immutable, so that it may warn of a severe punishment from Him; and give happy tidings to those who believe and do the right that there is a better reward (of Paradise) for them, 2 Wherein they shall remain for ever: 3 And to warn those (Jews, Christians, and pagans) who say, "Allah has begotten a son (or offspring or children)." 4 They have no knowledge of this, nor did their forefathers have any either. What they say is monstrous: they are merely uttering falsehoods! 5 Yet perchance, if they believe not in this tiding, thou wilt consume thyself, following after them, of grief. 6 Behold, We have willed that all beauty on earth be a means by which We put men to a test, [showing] which of them are best in conduct; 7 And indeed We shall one day make all that is on it a barren plain. 8 Do you think the men of the cave and Ar-Raqim were so strange among Our signs? 9 [Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance." 10 We then thumped upon their ears in the Cave for a number of years. (* Put them to sleep.) 11 and then roused them so that We might see which of the two parties could best tell the length of their stay. 12
