۞ It is He Who has created you from a single person (Adam), and (then) He has created from him his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], in order that he might enjoy the pleasure of living with her. When he had sexual relation with her, she became pregnant and she carried it about lightly. Then when it became heavy, they both invoked Allah, their Lord (saying): "If You give us a Salih (good in every aspect) child, we shall indeed be among the grateful." 189 But when He vouchsafeth the twain a goodly child they set up unto Him associates in respect of that which He hath vouchsafed to them. Exalted be Allah far from that which they associate! 190 What, do they associate that which creates nothing and themselves are created, 191 They cannot help them, nor can they help themselves. 192 And if ye call them toward guidance they follow you not: it is the same to you whether ye call them or are silent. 193 Those whom you (pagans) worship besides God, are themselves servants just like yourselves. If your claim was true, they should answer your prayers. 194 Do they have feet by which they walk? Or do they have hands by which they strike? Or do they have eyes by which they see? Or do they have ears by which they hear? Say, [O Muhammad], "Call your 'partners' and then conspire against me and give me no respite. 195 My protector is God who sent down the Book, for it is He who protects the righteous. 196 whereas all those whom you invoke in His stead are neither able to give you succour nor can succour themselves; 197 And if you invite them to guidance, they do not hear; and you see them looking at you while they do not see. 198 Use thou indulgence and enjoin seemliness and turn away from the ignorant. 199 If a provocation from Satan should provoke thee, seek refuge in God; He is All-hearing, All-seeing. 200 Verily those who fear God when an instigation from the Satan toucheth them, they call to mind, and lo! they are enlightened. 201 and their brothers they lead on into error, then they stop not short. 202 And when you bring them not a revelation they say: Why do you not forge it? Say: I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord; these are clear proofs from your Lord and a guidance and a mercy for a people who believe. 203 And when the Koran is recited, give you ear to it and be silent; haply so you will find mercy. 204 And do thou (O reader!) Bring thy Lord to remembrance in thy (very) soul, with humility and in reverence, without loudness in words, in the mornings and evenings; and be not thou of those who are unheedful. 205 Those who are with your Lord are not too proud to worship Him. They exalt Him and to Him they prostrate. ۩ 206
