Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf-Ha-Ya-A’in-Sad. (* Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah and to whomever He reveals know their precise meanings.) 1 This is an account of the mercy of your Lord to His servant Zechariah 2 Behold! he cried to his Lord in secret, 3 He said, "My Lord, indeed my bones have weakened, and my head has filled with white, and never have I been in my supplication to You, my Lord, unhappy. 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". 6 We answered his prayers with the glad news of the birth of a son by the name of John and told him, "We have never given such a name to anyone else." 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 Answered [the angel]: "Thus it is; [but] thy Sustainer says, 'This is easy for Me - even as I have created thee aforetime out of nothing'". 9 He said, 'Lord, appoint to me some sign.' Said He, 'Thy sign is that thou shall not speak to men, though being without fault, three nights.' 10 He therefore emerged upon his people from the mosque, and told them through gestures, “Keep proclaiming the Purity (of your Lord) morning and evening.” 11 We commanded John, Zachariah's son, to follow the guidance of the Lord with due steadfastness. We gave knowledge and wisdom to John during his childhood. 12 and a tenderness from Us, and purity; and he was godfearing, 13 and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. 14 And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life 15
