The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 Who will be honoured 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and spreading shade 30 and gushing water, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches; 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And have made them virgins. 36 chastely amorous, 37 for those on the Right, 38
