The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 And when the earth is flattened out, 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 in obedience to the commands of its Lord which are incumbent on it, (the human being will receive due recompense for his deeds). 5 O man, having striven hard towards your Lord, you shall meet Him: 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 shall cry for “perdition,” 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 Nay, nay! for his Lord was (ever) watchful of him! 15 Nay; I swear by the twilight; 16 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth, 17 And the moon when at the full, 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What is the matter with them, that they believe not? 20 And when the Qur'an is read to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So announce to them a painful torment. 24 Save those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them is a reward that will never come to an end (i.e. Paradise). 25
