Was there not a period of time when man was nothing worth mentioning? 1 Surely We have created man from a small life-germ uniting (itself): We mean to try him, so We have made him hearing, seeing. 2 Indeed, We have guided him to the path, he is either grateful or ungrateful. 3 For the unbelievers, We have kept ready chains and fetters and a Blazing Fire. 4 The virtuous shall drink from a cup tempered with camphor water. 5 From a fountain whence the bondmen of Allah will drink, causing it to gush abundantly. 6 [The truly virtuous are] they [who] fulfil their vows, and stand in awe of a Day the woe of which is bound to spread far and wide, 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 (Saying),"We feed you for the sake of Allah alone: no reward do we desire from you, nor thanks. 9 Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." 10 Therefore, God will ward off from them the woes of that Day, and make them find brightness and joy, 11 And reward them for their perseverence Paradise and silken robes, 12 [They will be] reclining therein on adorned couches. They will not see therein any [burning] sun or [freezing] cold. 13 And near above them are its shades, and its [fruit] to be picked will be lowered in compliance. 14 Rounds of silver cups and silver beakers, looking like glass, will be presented upon them. 15 Godblets of silver, they shall have filled them to exact measure. 16 And therein they shall be given to drink of a cup whereof the admixture will be ginger. 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ They will be served by immortal youths who look like scattered pearls. 19 And when thou lookest, it is there thou wilt see a Bliss and a Realm Magnificent. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 It will be said to them, “This is your reward – indeed your efforts have been appreciated.” 22
