He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 In honored books, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 Written by the hands of emissaries. 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and cleaved the earth, cleaving it asunder; 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 And grapes and herbage 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And from his mother and his father, 35 and from his spouse and his children: 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
