The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 his eye swerved not; nor swept astray. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and Manat the third, the other? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That indeed were an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
