The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
