Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Some faces that Day shall be downcast with fear, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Faces on that Day shall be delighted, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In a high Garden 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 [and] there will be thrones [of happiness] raised high, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in a row, 15 And carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 But whoever will turn away (from the Truth), 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
