And lo! Jonah verily was of those sent (to warn) 139 Call to mind when he fled to the laden ship, 140 And then drew lots and was of those rejected; 141 [and they cast him into the sea,] whereupon the great fish swallowed him, for he had been blameworthy. 142 Had he not been one of those who acknowledge the glory of God, 143 he would have tarried in its belly until the day they shall be raised; 144 ۞ But We caused him to be cast forth on to the beach, sick as he was, 145 and caused a creeping plant to grow over him [out of the barren soil]. 146 And We sent him (on a mission) to a hundred thousand (men) or more. 147 And they believed; so We gave them enjoyment for a while. 148 Now ask them if their Lord has daughters, and they sons? 149 Have We created the angels as females before their very eyes? 150 Unquestionably, it is out of their [invented] falsehood that they say, 151 Allah hath begotten. Allah! verily they tell a lie. 152 Has He chosen daughters in preference to sons? 153 What is the matter with you, how is it that you judge? 154 Will you then not take heed? 155 Or, is there for you a clear warranty 156 Bring your book if what you say is true. 157 They have set up a kinship between Him and the jinn; and the jinn know that they shall be arraigned. 158 God is far above what they attribute to Him, 159 Except His chosen creatures who do not. 160 So surely you and what you worship, 161 you shall not tempt any against Him 162 Except such as are (themselves) going to the blazing Fire! 163 There is not one of us but hath his known position. 164 We stand in ranks (for prayer) 165 and, verily, we too extol His limitless glory!" 166 Even though they (unbelievers) say, 167 "If we had a reminder as had the men of old (before the coming of Prophet Muhammad SAW as a Messenger of Allah). 168 we would have certainly been sincere servants of God". 169 But they disbelieved in it; soon they shall know! 170 And certainly Our word has already gone forth in respect of Our servants, the apostles: 171 that they shall receive Our help 172 And most surely Our host alone shall be the victorious ones. 173 (Muhammad), stay away from them for a while 174 and watch them. They, too, will watch. 175 What, do they seek to hasten Our chastisement? 176 Then, when it descends into their courtyard (i.e. near to them), evil will be the morning for those who had been warned! 177 So turn thou away from them for a little while, 178 And watch and they shall see (the torment)! 179 Exaltations be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, above that they describe! 180 And peace be unto the sent ones. 181 and praise be to God, the Lord of all the Worlds. 182
