A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif-Laam-Meem-Saad. (Alphabets of the Arabic language; Allah and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 This is a Book sent down toward thee, so let there be no straitness in thy breast therefor, that thou mayest warn thereby! and this is an admonition unto the believers. 2 Follow that which is sent down toward you from your Lord, and follow not any patrons beside Him; yet little ye are admonished. 3 And how many cities have We destroyed, and Our punishment came to them at night or while they were sleeping at noon. 4 Then naught was their cry when Our violence came upon them save that they said: verily we have been the wrong-doers. 5 Then shall we question those to whom Our message was sent and those by whom We sent it. 6 Then We will surely relate [their deeds] to them with knowledge, and We were not [at all] absent. 7 (Everyone's deeds) will certainly be weighed (and evaluated) on the Day of Judgment. Those whose good deeds weigh heavier than their bad deeds will have everlasting happiness. 8 And as for him whose measure (of good deeds) is light those are they who have made their souls suffer loss because they disbelieved in Our communications. 9 We established you in the land and provided you with a means of livelihood there: yet you are seldom thankful. 10
