The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 thy robes purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked round; 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 “This is nothing but the speech of a man.” 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
