Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 The multiple and the one, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there in this an oath for one endowed with understanding? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My worshipers and 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
