The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Read, for your Lord is most beneficent, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the returning. 8 What do you think? Have you seen he who forbids 9 A slave when he prayeth? 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 Seest thou if he denies (Truth) and turns away? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Let him beware! If he desist not, We will drag him by the forelock,- 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So, let him call upon his way! 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of God the Almighty.

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
