۞ But We shall say, "Assemble those who did wrong together with their associates and what they worshipped 22 besides God, and lead them to the path of the Fire; 23 and halt them [there]!" [And then,] behold, they shall be asked, 24 "Why help you not one another?" 25 indeed, on that Day they will surrender themselves. 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 They will say, "You used to come at us from the right." 28 They will reply: "Nay, ye yourselves had no Faith! 29 Moreover, we had no power at all over you: nay, you were people filled with overweening arrogance! 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 So verily on that Day they all in the torment will be sharers. 33 Surely thus do We deal with the guilty. 34 Whenever it was said to them: “There is no true deity apart from Allah,” they waxed proud 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 No, indeed, he has brought the truth, and confirmed the Messengers. 37 (They will be told): “You shall taste the grievous chastisement. 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 Save single-minded slaves of Allah; 40 For them there is a known provision, 41 Fruits of every kind, and they will be honoured 42 In Gardens of Felicity, 43 on couches facing each other. 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 delicious to those who drink it 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 They will go to one another asking each other questions. 50 The speaker among them said, “I had a companion.” 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 After we are dead and have become all dust and bones shall we still be requited?' 53 He says, 'Are you looking down?' 54 He looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 for had it not been for my Sustainer's favour, I would surely be [now] among those who are given over [to suffering]! 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Verily, this - this indeed - is the triumph supreme!" 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 We have indeed made that a punishment for the unjust. 63 Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire, 64 and its fruits are like the heads of devils. 65 And lo! they verily must eat thereof, and fill (their) bellies therewith. 66 Then indeed, they will have after it a mixture of scalding water. 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 so they are rushing to follow in their footsteps. 70 yet before them most of the ancients went astray, 71 although, verily, We had sent warners unto them: 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 except for God's sincere servants. 74
