The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he beheld, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
