Nay, by the moon, 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 And by oath of the morning, when it spreads light. 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 a warning to mortal man 36 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 save those who shall have attained to righteousness: 39 in Gardens they will question 40 Of evil-doers: 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 They will reply: 'We were not among those who prayed 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 and we plunged along with the plungers, 45 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment, 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 The intercession of the intercessors will be of no benefit to them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Is it that everyone of them wants to receive a heavenly book addressed to him personally? 52 No! They do not fear the Hereafter -- 53 but this is truly a reminder. 54 So, whoever wills, will remember it. 55 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy. 56
