The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He will say: 'I have destroyed a vast wealth' 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 an orphaned relative 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
Almighty God's Truth.
