[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not take heed? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 And if ye seize by force, seize ye as tyrants? 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 amply provided you with flocks, and children, 133 gardens and fountains. 134 Indeed, I fear for you the punishment of a terrible day." 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 “This is nothing but the tradition of former people.” 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 140
