The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 but We see it is nigh. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend inquires after friend 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Except those who pray, 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar who asks, and for the unlucky who has lost his property and wealth, (and his means of living has been straitened); 25 And those who testify to the Day of Requital. 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Indeed the punishment of their Lord is not a thing to be unafraid of! 28 And those who of their private parts are guards. 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
