The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they asking each other about? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made your sleep for rest, 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We have set therein lamps glowing. 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 The Day of Judgment will certainly be the final appointment. 17 The day on which the trumpet shall be blown so you shall come forth in hosts, 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains move, and vaporize. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and pus 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Indeed they had no fear of the account. 27 and they rejected outright Our signs; 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
