He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 from a blind man who had come up to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 How We pour water in showers 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and herbage, 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
