A numerous company from among the first, 39 and a throng of the later folk. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Which is neither cool nor is for respect. 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 And also our forefathers? 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you went astray, you that belied, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 So what is your opinion regarding the semen you discharge? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 "We are ruined, 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you considered the fire you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
