He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and then turned away 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attended to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and fearfully, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 mother, father, 35 wife and sons, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 with darkness overspread: 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
