The Rolling (Al-Takweer)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
When the sun is overthrown, 1 and when the stars lose their light, 2 And when the mountains shall made to pass away; 3 and when she-camels big with young, about to give birth, are left untended, 4 The wild beasts stampede on the run, 5 the oceans are brought to a boil, 6 when the souls are coupled (to their body), 7 and when the girl-child buried alive shall be asked: 8 For what sin she was slain, 9 when the scrolls are unrolled, 10 And when the sky is stripped away 11 When Hell is set ablaze, 12 and when paradise is brought into view: 13 Every soul will then come know what it has brought. 14 So, I call the receding stars to witness, 15 the planets that run their course and set, 16 And the close of night, 17 And the Dawn as it breathes away the darkness;- 18 truly this is the word of a noble Messenger 19 The mighty, the honoured in the presence of the Lord of the Throne. 20 Obeyed (by the angels), trustworthy there (in the heavens). 21 Your Companion is not mad, 22 And indeed he saw him on the clear horizon. (Prophet Mohammed saw Angel Jibreel in his true shape – peace and blessings be upon them). 23 And Muhammad is not a withholder of [knowledge of] the unseen. 24 Nor is it the word of an evil spirit accursed. 25 So where are you going? 26 This [message] is no less than a reminder to all mankind 27 (With profit) to whoever among you wills to go straight: 28 But ye shall not will except as Allah wills,- the Cherisher of the Worlds. 29
