The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it covers the day, 1 And [by] the day when it appears 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 And affirms goodness, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 None shall enter it but the most unhappy, 15 Who belieth and turneth away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 Who giveth away his substance that he may be cleansed, 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
