Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The Inevitable Calamity! 1 What is the Inevitable Calamity? 2 And what could make thee conceive what that laying-bare of the truth will be? 3 THE LIE gave [the tribes of] Thamud and 'Ad to [all tidings of] that sudden calamity! 4 Thamood, they were destroyed by the violent shout (of Gabriel), 5 The Ads were destroyed by a swift, destructive gale 6 which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. 7 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them? 8 Then came the Pharaoh, and those before him whose habitations were overthrown while they were committing crimes. 9 and rebelled against their Sustainer's apostles: and so He took them to task with a punishing grasp exceedingly severe! 10 We, when the water (of Noah's Flood) overflowed beyond its limits, carried you (mankind), in the floating (Ark), 11 In order to make it a warning for you, and that the ear retentive may preserve it. 12 So, when the Trumpet is blown with a single blast 13 and the earth and the mountains are carried aloft and are crushed to bits at one stroke, 14 on that Day, the Event occurs. 15 when the sky will be rent asunder, the grip holding it together having loosened on that Day, 16 And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them. 17 On that Day you shall be brought to judgment: not [even] the most hidden of your deeds will remain hidden. 18 So whoever is given his book in his right hand – he will say, “Take, read my account!” 19 Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. 20 So he shall be in a pleasing life 21 in a lofty paradise, 22 The Fruits whereof (will hang in bunches) low and near. 23 (And told:) "Eat and drink to your fill as reward for (good) deeds you had done in days of yore." 24 And whoever is given his book in his left hand – he will say, “Alas, if only my account were not given to me!” 25 Nor that I knew my reckoning! 26 “Alas, if only it had been just death.” 27 My riches have not availed me, 28 My authority is gone away from me. 29 "Seize him and manacle him, 30 and then let him enter Hell. 31 and then thrust him into a chain [of other sinners like him - a chain] the length whereof is seventy cubits: 32 He did not believe in God the supreme, 33 “And did not urge to feed the needy.” 34 Today he has been left here friendless; 35 Nor any food save filth 36 Which none but sinners eat. 37
