The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the great tidings! 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse. 6 and fixed the mountains like pegs, 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 made the night as a covering, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 to make the seeds, plants, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven will be opened – it therefore becomes like gates. 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 Living therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
