He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 although it is not for you to be concerned if he remained unpurified. 7 But as to him who came to you running. 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and therein made the grains to grow 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
