Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 by the Ten (secret) Nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, lord of stakes? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me. 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return towards your Lord – you being pleased with Him, and He pleased with you! 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
